The Other Side Of Courage: Embracing Fear, Taking Risks, the One Truth You Need to Know
Being a professional today isn't easy. The lines between work and home are constantly blurred, and it seems like the expectations are higher than they've ever been. How can you know you're headed in the right direction? How do you find the courage to take the leaps you know you need to make? What's the One Truth you need to embrace that puts everything in perspective?

Amber Naslund is a single mom of a first-grader, two-time entrepreneur, published author, startup alumni, the owner and principal of a successful social business consulting firm, and the leader of a pack of dogs, cats and rats at home, and yet she still manages to read a book and find a little time for herself.

In her keynote, Amber will talk about what she's learned - often the hard way - and how to use fear and uncertainty to fuel the momentum of your life and career.

Learn how you could make the most of Facebook's newly revised promotion and advertising guidelines to take your page to new heights. Presented by a veteran blogger and digital marketer who has built more than 2.5 million Facebook fans for his clients, this session will be fun, informative and packed with practical tips from the social media trenches.

What you'll learn:
  1. How to host effective Facebook promotions and giveaways that won't run afoul of Facebook policies and legal restrictions.
  2. The many other Facebook guidelines aimed at page owners, from alcohol references to promoted content restrictions

Media Kits. You know you need one, but you don't know where to start. Or you have one, but you want to make it better. Stacie shows you how to create your kit, which numbers matter, and how to track and present the results of the campaigns you work on.

  • Where to find the relevant data companies and advertisers are looking for

Because this is a hands-on session, please bring the following to your session:

Hands On: Just Write: Putting the Free-Writing Back in Blogging ATTENDEE LIST LOCKED IN - NO CHANGES
Limited Capacity seats available

THE HANDS-ON SESSIONS ARE CLOSED. (9/13/2013)

Regardless of attendee registrations/unregistrations or waitlisters being moved into session, those changes will not be made on the official attendance list (see FB Group) and will not allow you admittance to the session.

This session will focus on writing without hesitation -- no editing or over-thinking while writing. The intent is to bring people back to the heart of good writing -- allowing the words to tell their own story by writing from within and watching the story (and therefore theme) unfold. Attendees will spend time practicing this technique while being instructed on how to do it well.

What you'll learn:
  1. Understand exactly what free-writing means.
  2. Learn ways to let go and actually practice free-writing.
  3. Write in a more meaningful way. Attendees will have examples to take with them of the difference between writing that is forced to achieve something and writing that reveals its message with emotion; poetic, descriptive and relatable.

Because this is a hands-on writing session, please bring something to write with. That can be a pen and paper, laptop, tablet, or whatever works for you.

Cause Blogging and the New Media Activist
Bloggers have a pulse on current events and social issues and they're quick to voice their opinions on them. But there are issues to consider before lending our influence to a cause. Bloggers and social media influencers can make a difference but it takes an entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and the desire to take action, online and off.

This panel discusses
  • What makes your work effective for the people you're trying to help
  • Finding the balance between gaining professionally and monetarily and donating time and resources
  • The effect of blog articles and social media - Do your tweets and retweets make a difference?

Expert Table: Bloggers and the Law: What You Need to Know
Expert Tables are a little different than a regular session: They offer a way for attendees to interact with experts in a smaller, more relaxed setting. They are a conversation instead of a presentation.

Here’s how it works:
  • There are no presentations or slides. This is a dialog, not a monolog. :)
  • There is no selling or making partnerships. You can connect later if you like.
  • It’s very informal -- like you’re having coffee at Starbucks and friends happened join you and you started talking about your business.

Dad Bloggers: They Aren't Just Mom Bloggers Without the Ovaries
Daddy bloggers. It wasn’t that long ago that dads who blogged were something of an anomaly. Today, however, they are a visible entity in the parent blogging landscape contributing their voice to mainstream parenting publications and using their blogs to work with major brands on a regular basis. What is it, though, that makes daddy bloggers different from the moms? In this moderated panel discussion three long-time dad bloggers share their perspectives on how they differ from mommy bloggers and the effects of blogging on their personal lives.

Attendees will
• Gain an understanding of parent blogging from the dad’s perspective
• Learn how dads are working with brands through their blogs
• Discover how blogging has impacted men in their family relationships

Blog Photography for the Photographically Challenged
Good photography is not about the equipment you have. It is about light, vision, presentation and some basic knowledge about how to use what you have at your disposal. I constantly hear people say “I need to buy a better camera so I can take better pictures”. Buying the best equipment will not make your photos instantly beautiful. Learning how to use and manipulate both your equipment and your surroundings will drastically improve the quality of the photos you take.

What you'll learn:
  1. How to easily manipulate natural and artificial light already available to produce a more vivid and well defined image.
  2. How an interesting angle or a well placed prop can make a photograph considerably more interesting than shooting the subject alone. Attendees will learn how to change their physical perspective of a shot and to utilize objects around the house to style their photos.
  3. How to troubleshoot technical issues like utilizing the most common camera presets, (location and function of macro vs action mode, focus presets), and preparing images for the web, (sizing, watermarking and presentation).

Hands On: Cosmetic (Blog) Enhancements ATTENDEE LIST LOCKED IN - NO CHANGES
Limited Capacity seats available

THE HANDS-ON SESSIONS ARE CLOSED. (9/13/2013)

Regardless of attendee registrations/unregistrations or waitlisters being moved into session, those changes will not be made on the official attendance list (see FB Group) and will not allow you admittance to the session.

You love your blog design. Mostly. You don’t envy other bloggers’ beautiful backgrounds or fabulous fonts. Much. But deep down you do wish your blog was a little more alluring. Still you, but you in your best outfit. If you’re up for a small challenge, together we’ll x-ray your blog and make a few simple but transformative edits to its CSS.

What you'll learn:
  1. How to quickly pinpoint what you want to change without getting mired in HTML or CSS
  2. How a simple background change can have the effect of an extreme makeover
  3. How to create gorgeous page headings with Google Fonts

Prerequisites
This hands-on session requires certain skills and tools. To attend this session you must have these items installed and/or ready BEFORE you attend the session. If you do not, the session will not wait for you to catch up as it would not be fair to the other participants. Thank you for understanding. To attend this session you must have/do the following:
If you are approved to attend the Cosmetic (Blog) Enhancements: Simple Nips & Tucks with Big Bang for the Buck, please note these prerequisites. You must have these items ready to go as you will not have time during the session and Teresa will not delay the session.

Please have these items/info ready:
  • Computer. Tablets will not work for the kind of admin-area work you'll do in the session.
  • WordPress.org is recommended. If you have WordPress.com, please purchase and install the Custom CSS upgrade; without it you won't be able to do any of the tweaks the session covers.
  • WordPress login information.
  • WordPress.org users must have Jetpack plugin fully installed and ready to go. You will need to hook it up to your WordPress.com (<-- that *is* dot com!) account. Sign up for one if you need to.
  • Chrome browser. Teresa will be using Chrome's built-in developer tools to demonstrate during this session.
  • Create a page to use for playing around during the session, but don't add it to your menu. This way it's out of public view. You will use this page to try out changes without affecting your entire site.
  • Go to Google Fonts (http://www.google.com/fonts) and choose a font you'd like to try out. You will need to have the code snippet associated with that font.
  • Make a copy of your current design files (style.css, etc.). You will be making changes to your backgrounds and fonts (you can change them back later). We do NOT want you to lose your original design.
