Hands On: Cosmetic (Blog) Enhancements ATTENDEE LIST LOCKED IN - NO CHANGES FILLING

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity seats available

THE HANDS-ON SESSIONS ARE CLOSED. (9/13/2013)

Regardless of attendee registrations/unregistrations or waitlisters being moved into session, those changes will not be made on the official attendance list (see FB Group) and will not allow you admittance to the session.

You love your blog design. Mostly. You don’t envy other bloggers’ beautiful backgrounds or fabulous fonts. Much. But deep down you do wish your blog was a little more alluring. Still you, but you in your best outfit. If you’re up for a small challenge, together we’ll x-ray your blog and make a few simple but transformative edits to its CSS.

What you'll learn:
  1. How to quickly pinpoint what you want to change without getting mired in HTML or CSS
  2. How a simple background change can have the effect of an extreme makeover
  3. How to create gorgeous page headings with Google Fonts

Prerequisites
This hands-on session requires certain skills and tools. To attend this session you must have these items installed and/or ready BEFORE you attend the session. If you do not, the session will not wait for you to catch up as it would not be fair to the other participants. Thank you for understanding. To attend this session you must have/do the following:
If you are approved to attend the Cosmetic (Blog) Enhancements: Simple Nips & Tucks with Big Bang for the Buck, please note these prerequisites. You must have these items ready to go as you will not have time during the session and Teresa will not delay the session.

Please have these items/info ready:
  • Computer. Tablets will not work for the kind of admin-area work you'll do in the session.
  • WordPress.org is recommended. If you have WordPress.com, please purchase and install the Custom CSS upgrade; without it you won't be able to do any of the tweaks the session covers.
  • WordPress login information.
  • WordPress.org users must have Jetpack plugin fully installed and ready to go. You will need to hook it up to your WordPress.com (<-- that *is* dot com!) account. Sign up for one if you need to.
  • Chrome browser. Teresa will be using Chrome's built-in developer tools to demonstrate during this session.
  • Create a page to use for playing around during the session, but don't add it to your menu. This way it's out of public view. You will use this page to try out changes without affecting your entire site.
  • Go to Google Fonts (http://www.google.com/fonts) and choose a font you'd like to try out. You will need to have the code snippet associated with that font.
  • Make a copy of your current design files (style.css, etc.). You will be making changes to your backgrounds and fonts (you can change them back later). We do NOT want you to lose your original design.
